Today we’re off to Huron, a city of 11,000+ in east central South Dakota named after the Huron Indians and born out of railroads and land booms in the 1880’s. Actress Cheryl Ladd, originally of “Charlie’s Angels” fame, and former Vice President Hubert Humphrey are from Huron. The town has its share of roadside attractions: there’s a giant fiberglass buffalo in front of the car dealership on Highway 14, and a genuine old Air Force twin-seat jet fighter on the ground in front of the VFW. Most notably, however, is the 20 feet tall and 40 feet long World's Largest Pheasant on top of the old Huron Liquor Store symbolizing Huron's claim as the "Pheasant Capital of the World".

i have this foggy memory of drinking scotch with a picture of a pheasant on it. there's a lot of stuff that's foggy from those days.
6:30 PMI appreciate your choices of road trips and large roadside attractions! My family travel blog,“Go BIG or Go Home,” chronicles what happens when my small-town family visits the “world’s largest”…whatever! http://GoBIGorGoHomeblog.com
