Today we’re heading far west to visit the Municipality of Anchorage in our 49th State. It’s the northernmost US city and more than 40% of Alaska’s population live in Anchorage. The city was officially chartered in 1920 and its economy flourished through the railroad and the military industries. Anchorage was subsequently largely destroyed by a 9.2 earthquake on Good Friday in 1964. Aggressive rebuilding and beautification projects, along with the discovery of oil in 1968 have contributed to the return to glory for this 4-time “All-America City”. Urban wildlife is diverse with Moose, bears, wolves and fox wandering amongst the yuppies. With a little extra hunting, however, you can also spot a giant roller skate. Not sure why it’s there and can't find any information about it; but then again, why are any of us here?
